FLYING SOLO SA 3 HAS CHANGED!

NEW VENUE FOR A SMALLER EVENT:

Birds Boutique Cafe

Bree Street, Cape Town

10am, 9 May 2009

We had limited response to our proposal for a large FlyingSolo event at the Wild Fig, so we decided to postpone the main event for later in the year.

For those who would still like to network and generally have a good time, we're having a smaller, informal brunch gathering at Birds on Saturday morning, followed (for those who feel like it) by lunch at Daawat restaurant, which offers both vegetarian and Halaal options.

FlyingSolo is a series of one-day unconferences where solo entrepreneurs and freelancers can meet to share experiences and tips, ask questions, get answers, network with other soloists and explore potential collaborations.

The first two Flying Solo SA Unconferences in Cape Town and Johannesburg last year were a huge success (see what people said about them here). So, due to popular demand we'll be running another event at the Wild Fig in Observatory, Cape Town on Saturday 9 May. later in the year.

Who should be there?
Anyone who works in a solo or freelance capacity, or who wants to break out of their corporate cubicle and go solo. It doesn't matter what industry you work in: last year we had social workers, photographers, architects, accountants, graphic designers, writers, and many more.

What is an unconference?
This is a highly interactive day where the agenda is totally shaped by the audience. Tell us what topics you'd like covered and we'll find people to give a short talk (10 min max) - or volunteer to talk about a topic yourself!  An unconference is about tapping into the communal expertise of the audience and everyone is encouraged to participate. You're not expected to have all the answers - sometimes having a question is enough to promote a great discussion. As we discovered last year, the only experts at flying solo are soloists themselves.

What topics will be covered?
Whatever is on YOUR mind! Struggling with the economic recession? Want to know how to find clients? Interested in earning international income? Been made redundant and don't know whether soloing is right for you? YOU drive the content of the day! Send your ideas for topics to Jo via email and she'll add them to the list below (please indicate whether you'd be willing to talk about that topic/introduce it).

What does it cost?

There is no 'conference fee' for Flying Solo SA. Speakers are not paid and the organisers put the event together on a voluntary, not-for-profit basis. But we do need to cover some costs - like the venue, sound/projection equipment and the food. So, FlyingSolo 3 will cost R450, for which you get a whole day of talks, discussion, networking and invaluable advice (see What people are saying about FlyingSolo) plus a two-course lunch and tea/coffee/biscuits.

Sponsorship
We are working on securing sponsorship to add value to the event and help cover some of the costs. We are also looking for giveaways on the day, so if you are interested in sponsoring the event, please let Jo know.

Where do I sign up?

Space is limited to 80 people so book now to ensure you get a seat!  To guarantee your place, please deposit your R450 per person into the following account:

Standard Bank, Rondebosch branch; Current account no. 07-558-155-8; Account name FlyingSolo.

Please email proof of payment to Pam Sykes. (If you send a payment confirmation directly from your bank, please note your email or cell number so we know how to get hold of you!) Your name will be added to the list once your payment has been received.

In the very unlikely event that FlyingSolo3 is cancelled, we will refund fees in full. No-shows are not refundable as the venue will already have catered for you.

We look forward to seeing you on May 9th!
