Welcome to Flying Solo SA

FlyingSolo is a series of one-day unconferences where solo entrepreneurs and freelancers can meet and participate in a facilitated forum. Share experiences and tips, ask questions, get answers and generally improve your business smarts! Plus network with other soloists and explore potential collaborations.

FLYING SOLO SA IS BACK!

NEXT EVENT: Cape Town, 9 May 2009

Soloists and freelancers - you won't want to miss this!
BOOK NOW TO SECURE YOUR SEAT. SPACE IS LIMITED TO 80 PEOPLE.

Following the very successful Flying Solo SA Unconferences in Cape Town and Johannesburg last year, we'll be running another event at the Wild Fig in Observatory, Cape Town on Saturday 9 May.

Who should be there?
Anyone who works in a solo or freelance capacity, or who is interested perhaps in breaking out of their corporate cubicle and wants to know what going solo is all about. Any types of soloists from any industry are welcome. Last year we had social workers, photographers, architects, accountants, graphic designers, writers, and many more.

What is an unconference?
This is a highly interactive day where the agenda is totally shaped by the audience. Tell us on the wiki what topics you'd like covered and we'll endeavour to find people who are happy to give a short talk (10 min max) about them - or volunteer to talk about a topic yourself. An unconference is about tapping into the communal expertise of the audience and everyone is encouraged to participate. You're not expected to have all the answers - sometimes having a question is enough to promote a great discussion.

What topics will be covered?
Whatever is on YOUR mind! Struggling with the economic recession? Want to know how to find clients? Interested in earning international income? Don't know where Been made redundant and don't know whether soloing is right for you? YOU drive the content of the day!

What people said last time
  • "I loved the day, all the info and sharing experiences and successes. I didn't realise that all the stuff I struggle with is stuff that everybody else struggles with as well. I thought I am a moron having issues like these - I feel sooo much better now."
  • "I enjoyed the day very much. I'm not sure how I have managed to survive as a soloist for over 20 years without some of the stuff to which I had my eyes opened."
  • "Really an eye opener to know that there are so many other people out there who have had or are still experiencing the same problems. I learned so much from listening to the ideas and suggestions from others. Certainly feeling very motivated."
  • "Awesome, awesome and very lekka. I enjoyed the whole day and cant wait for the next one. What a great bunch of people!!"

What does it cost?

This isn't one of those conferences where you have to pay R5,000 to walk through the door. There is no 'conference fee' for Flying Solo SA. Speakers are not paid a fee and the organisers put the event together on a voluntary, not-for-profit basis. But we do need to cover some costs - like the the venue, sound/projection equipment and the food

Attendance at the event costs R450, for which you get a whole day of talks, discussion, networking and invaluable advice (see comments above) plus a two-course lunch and tea/coffee/biscuits.

Sponsorship
We are working on securing sponsorship to add value to the event and help cover some of the costs. We are also looking for giveaways on the days, so if you are interested in sponsoring the event, please let Jo know.

BOOK NOW!!

Space is limited to 80 people so book now to ensure you get a seat!  To guarantee your place, please deposit R450 per person into the following account:
