WANT TO COME? Just add your name to the table below!

TO EDIT THIS PAGE, CLICK 'EDIT PAGE' ABOVE AND USE PASSWORD 'SOLO'

Remember to click "Save" at the bottom of the page when you're done! If you have problems mail pam at pamsykes.com for help. For easy editing, please ensure you are in 'point and click' mode, not classic mode.

Also join the Flying Solo online network to connect online and find out what's happening, and sign up on Freelancentral if you haven't already.

WHAT'S THE AGENDA?

Whatever you want it to be! Simply add a topic to the list at the bottom of the page - and indicate if you would be willing to speak about it or be a panellist for it.

WHAT DOES IT COST?

This isn't one of those conferences where you have to pay R5,000 to walk through the door. There is no 'conference fee' for Flying Solo SA.

However the organisers, who are putting the event together on a voluntary, not-for-profit basis, are incurring costs, like the use of the venue and the lunches. In order to cover these costs, we are asking each soloist to contribute R200 per person. For this you get a whole day of talks, discussion and invaluable advice (everyone in Cape Town felt it was more than worth it) plus your lunch and tea/coffee/biscuits, etc. To guarantee your place, please deposit your contribution into the following account:

Standard Bank, Rondebosch branch; Current account no. 07-558-155-8; Account name FlyingSolo.

Please email proof of payment to Pam Sykes.

If you are going to be paying on the day, please bring cash.

In the very unlikely event that FlyingSolo2 is cancelled we will refund fees in full! No-shows are not refundable as the venue will already have catered for you.

SPONSORS

We’re thrilled to have Adobe on board as our headline sponsor for this event. It is thanks to them that the Cape Town Flying Solo team will be there.

Adobe are are also sending two great speakers to talk to us: Alistair de Wet will discuss how to leverage intellectual property to forge better partnerships and Mohammed Jogie will be talking about the state of design in South Africa, and globally. Jogie is a high-profile speaker at conferences around the world as well as a Board Director of Think (the SA Design Council) and Adobe’s Design Evangelist for the Middle East and Africa. He has also previously started his own design company.

Online marketing and social media expert Jammaludeen Khan from Jayz will not only be sharing his enthusiasm for his subject in his talk but will also be providing photo and video coverage of the day and uploading all this to the Internet for those of you who are unable to attend the event. Thanks Jamaal!

COVERAGE AND REPORTING

We also would love any writers to report on the event - particularly summaries of the discussions that could be useful references for both delegates and those who cannot make it to the event. Anything you write will be published on www.freelancentral.co.za and we'll link to your blog posts too. Contact Jo for details or come and chat to her on the day.

EXTRA EXTRA: GET JOHN BERRY'S NEW BOOK (Vanessa Mayley)

I was fortunate enough to be able to meet up with John Berry, before the ‘anti conference’, and got my hands on his newly published diamond of a book, ‘FAIL-SAFE ANSWERS TO FREELANCERS’ FAQS’.Wow! I swallowed it up in a day and am reading it over and over.

If you are like me and have many questions relating to your amazing job as a freelancer, then this is most definitely for you. I’ve been struggling with Marketing, Pricing, and getting a client to pay, and Hey, guess what... it’s all in this book (and more). Or if you’re thinking of going off on your own, definitely read this, you’ll be so much more prepared than I was.

This book is so cleverly structured, it’s like you’re sitting having a conversation with this more than experienced, witty mentor of a man. It had me chuckling, all the way through, as I saw myself in almost every situation illustrated by John. His ‘whatever’ attitude was inspiring and I had many ‘AH HA’ moments as I gained insight into almost all the problems I’m having.

I’ve never spent so little and received so much information before. I feel like a tourist having just bargained a poor artist, so low on a price, that it’s sinful. All I need to do now is put everything I’ve learnt into Practice, AND STOP PROCRASTINATING!!!!Get Your Copy at the Joburg event!

What else do you want to see here? Add it!
